At Archetype Glass, we don’t just manufacture mirrors — we engineer light.
Using our proprietary Interpainted™ process and frosted finishes, we’ve developed four distinct methods to control reflectivity, diffusion, and depth. The result? Designers can fine-tune the balance between mirror and glass depending on performance, aesthetic, and installation needs.
Because reflection isn’t one-dimensional — and it shouldn’t be specified that way.
Surface vs. Substance: Why Diffusion Matters
When specifying decorative mirror, the real question isn’t just color. It’s control.
Do you want high gloss?
Muted reflectivity?
Depth without glare?
The way light is diffused — either at the surface or within the laminated structure — dramatically impacts both appearance and performance.
Here’s how our four finishes break down:

The Classic
Full reflectivity. Zero diffusion. Maximum clarity.
Our Classic mirror delivers a true, blue-backed reflective surface with high gloss and crisp clarity. Ideal for projects that require maximum brightness, sharp reflection, and traditional mirror aesthetics.
Best for: Retail, hospitality, statement installations where brilliance is the goal.

The Ghost
Clear surface. Diffused interlayer. Depth without distortion.
Ghost Mirror flips the equation.
Instead of etching the surface, we laminate a diffused interlayer within the glass itself. The surface remains smooth and glossy, while the internal diffusion creates depth, veil, and dimensional softness.
Ghost Mirror delivers the illusion of depth without compromising surface integrity.
Best for: Luxury retail, hospitality, and projects requiring refined reflectivity at a smarter price point.

The Velvet
Light surface etch. Softened sheen. Easy maintenance.
Velvet introduces a subtle surface etch that diffuses light while maintaining reflectivity. The result is a refined matte effect that softens glare without fully obscuring the mirror.
Because the diffusion happens at the surface, it offers a sophisticated aesthetic while remaining easy to clean and maintain.
Best for: High-traffic environments needing elegance with practicality.

The Sueded
Heavy surface etch. Porous texture. Ultra-obscured finish.
Sueded pushes diffusion further with a deeper, more porous etch. Reflection becomes secondary to texture, creating a stone-like, atmospheric surface.
It’s less about seeing yourself — and more about creating mood.
Best for: Feature walls, architectural installations, and experiential spaces.
Reflectivity vs. Opacity: The Real Trade-Off
Every project sits somewhere on the spectrum between mirror and glass.
- More reflectivity = more brightness and clarity
- More diffusion = more atmosphere and subtlety
But the choice also affects:
- Durability
- Cleanability
- Installation tolerance
- Cost
- Visual distortion
Understanding these trade-offs early prevents surprises later.
When specified correctly, the surface becomes an asset — not a complication.
Spec With Intention
Whether you’re designing a high-traffic lobby or a luxury feature wall, the finish you choose changes how a space feels, functions, and ages.
That’s why we developed a system — not just a product line.
And if you want to experience the difference firsthand, request our Blue Mirror Mini-Kit to compare all four finishes side by side.
Because when it comes to reflection, nuance matters.
